On May 21–22, 2025, the Charter of European Rural Communities proudly witnessed another beautiful chapter in its mission of connecting rural Europe – a heartfelt school exchange between students from Tarmstedt, Germany, and the local school in Tisno, Croatia, thanks to the strong bond between Hepstedt and Tisno, both Charter members.
The visit began with the symbolic planting of a Tree of Friendship, marking the start of a shared European story among students.
Over two days, German and Croatian students connected through traditional dance, building boat models, language workshops in German, Italian, Croatian, and English, and cultural activities like bocce and crocheting – all filled with joy, learning, and cross-border friendship.
The programme closed with a fun quiz competition and prizes provided by Friends of Europe Tisno Association, the local Charter partner that initiated the exchange.
Thank you to all the students, teachers, and community members who made this possible. This is rural Europe at its best!
Bilateral meetings like this one held in France are essential for building strong connections, promoting learning, and facilitating cooperation on a variety of projects. They provide an opportunity for municipalities to share best practices and work together across different fields and organisations, strengthening our network and upholding the Charter’s spirit.
If you are planning a bilateral meeting, please feel free to inform us by sending all the details to secretary@europeancharter.eu.
